My total pages read for October was 1,789. I finished one I started in September (Murray), started and finished four (Jane Eyre and three Hardy Boys), and started another (Hagin).
At the end of September I had commenced Andrew Murray’s Abide with Christ. Many of Andrew’s books are designed to be read a chapter a day for 31 days so I got in step with the calendar and read a chapter a day to coincide with the date.
Having read Wuthering Heights in September I turned my attention to another Brontë sister - Charlotte and read Jane Eyre. It was more enjoyable than Wuthering Heights. When I finished Jane Eyre I thought I’d go for the trifecta and started Anne Brontë’s The Tenant of Wildfell Hall but I gave up after around 50 pages and a few days. I didn’t find the storyline or third-person narrative style particularly engaging.
I then turned my attention to the second, third and fourth Hardy Boys mysteries: The House on the Cliff, The Secret of the Old Mill and The Missing Chums. All written for young readers - probably the early teen years, but enjoyable enough for a quick read for someone some decades out of their teens! I’ll finish the eight books in the public domain in November.
The last book I started was Kenneth E. Hagin’s The Woman Question which tackles the issue or question of exactly what ministry is allowed or forbidden for women in the church. Strongly Biblical and clears up a number of questions that I had. The bottom line is that Paul’s injunction in 1 Timothy 2 is specifically relating to husbands and wives rather than men and women (as the context domonstrates).
